Peace with Earth 2008 is a collaborative effort between Oliveria, Spacecraft and Voiceless that aims to raise awareness about the suffering of factory farmed animals in Australia. The nature of food production has changed dramatically over recent decades with producers chasing greater scale and efficiency. Consequently, millions of animals are now confined to factory farms where their basic needs are denied. Many live in cages of steel and cement, have no access to the outdoors, are deprived of basic social interactions and mutilated with no pain relief. However, the current trend towards ‘ethical eating’ shows that as consumers become aware of the suffering of factory farmed animals, they use their purchasing power to take a stand against this institutionalised animal cruelty.
There are many ways in which each one of us can make a difference. Voiceless, the fund for animals, works tirelessly to promote respect and compassion for animals, increase awareness of the conditions in which they live and take action to protect animals from suffering. A donation of $2 from the sale of each Peace with Earth 2008 olive oil decanter will be made to Voiceless to fund grants for projects in the area of animal protection. The announcement of these grants will be made as part of the annual Voiceless Grants Program.
The Peace with Earth 2008 design is Spacecraft’s imaginative re-creation of the traditional motif of flying ducks. The image of three ducks has had a rich and varied history across many cultures. Spacecraft’s founder, Stewart Russell, drew inspiration from this symbol and chose to artistically drape each bird on the decanter with an iconic Spacecraft backing cloth. Spacecraft’s highly prized backing cloths are comprised of a variety of images, each stunning in their own right, but when overlaid with a touch of artistic randomness and chance, truly alluring imagery is brought to life. The final creation presents each bird as the embodiment of the beauty of nature, the fragility of being and the right of all creatures to live freely.
We hope that it brings you inspiration and prompts you to consider just how your food makes its way from the farm to your fork. |
